Nice mix of house, electronic and trance this week. My current fav song is the Tocadisco remix of Tetris – it really does make me want to move. The incredible soulwax remix of ‘Phantom Part ll’ by Justice is still high up on my list. It may have been originally released last year but it has been this summer in Ibiza and on Justice’s current tour which has seen in really become a hit. Click here for an awesome video of Groove Armada dropping it at Space in Ibiza – oh i sooooooo want to be there!!!! ‘Pjanoo’ is also making a bit of a comeback with it officially being released in the UK as a single – its looking likely to equal Eriz Prydz’s successful ‘Proper Education’ with a number 2 entry.

Below the official music video for ‘Pjanoo’ by Eric Prydz.

Free Chemical Brothers Download

August 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

September 1st marks the release of ‘Brotherhood’  a best of compilation with 2 brand spanking new tracks and even better news for real Chemical Brothers fans and electro-music producers: the complete collection of the band’s legendary “Electronic Battle Weapon” 1-10 series. Sweet~!

In order to get their fans excited about the upcoming release the boys are giving away an awesome free track:  ‘Hey Boy Hey Girl (Soulwax 2ManyDJ’s Remix)’ – a more techno sounding, bass pumping remix of my favourite Chemical Brothers track, re-mastered by Belgium’s pop-bastaridsers, electro group Soulwax

David Guetta @ Love Parade Germany 2008

August 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Watch this 19minute video of David’s short set at Love Parade in Dortmund, Germany. I totally love it when he drops a remix of Prodigy Firestarter after the 5min mark. He shows his popularity in Europe when the whole crowd sings along and goes crazy to Love is Gone after the 16min mark. Awesome stuff

D.Kay & Concord Dawn @ Backstage Dunedin 15-08-08

August 16, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Picture this: It is 12.55am Saturday morning in a small club in winter. The dance floor has a few people on the edges listening to an average local DJ who tries to mix The White Stripes Icky Thump with some drum & bass and fails miserably. There is a decent enough crowd but everyone is drinking and huddling round the fire trying to keep warm. The this tall lanky guy stands up, takes off his beanie and swaps it to a black cap and approaches the deck. Out of the darkness another guy grabs the mic and says something to the effect of “D.Kay on the decks lets get ready to rock this houe’ and the suddenly the generic drum & bass tune playing in the background turns into the opening bars of High Contrast In A Gadda Da Vida . Eyes light up, people turn to the dance floor and down they go. By the time In A Gadda Da Vida becomes the next song the MC is pumping, the dance floor is 2/3 full, and D.Kay is carefully surveying the crowd with his head cocked to one side, one headphone between his shoulder and his ear and a very observant look on his face. That is how you make a dead dance floor come alive.

He played a very good set with plenty of awesomely dancable numbers and gave the crowd plenty to appreciated by dropping some older tunes including a track from The Ghost in the Shell. The MC was pretty good and added some character to the night – i did wish he hadn’t said “Old school” (or was it Old skool :P ) so much.

Concord dawn came out and the dance floor was full, Dunedin people are generally big supporters of the duo, them having played student gigs and clubs around the country for years before they made it in Europe. Although the set was technically brilliant and Evan was obviously enjoying himself dancing away and taking shots from the MC, it lacked the spontaneity of D.Kay’s set. Highlight of their set was the song ‘Don’t Tell Me’ which 95% of the crowd seemed to know – it certainly got everyone jumping and really getting into it.

All in all a good nights drum & bass with a great ending – I had to pleasure to shake D.Kay’s hand when i left a tell him how much i enjoyed his set and liked his work. Awesome

Great Movie Soundtracks 2 – Crash

August 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

My itunes was on shuffle the other day when the song Sense of Touch by Mark Isham came on. This song literally moves me to tears – i have no idea what the words mean, but that doesn’t matter; it is a truly emotional song. This made me realise that when i was writing my post about movie soundtracks a while back i totally forgot Crash.
